Buying a candle has become an overwhelming process. It’s not the cute experience of smelling a few glass votives. Today the packaging is brilliantly alluring and the combination of scents is wildly enticing. A quick trip to one of our favorite destinations, Barneys New York and we deciphered candle culture.
Diptyque
In the world of candles Diptyque is known as King. Made in Paris for over 50 years, the candles have become something of a staple in fashionable homes (um hello, they start at $85), to be seen and smelled. The clean floral scent with a touch of pepper found in Freesia is of their best for daytime use. In the evening we love the Patchouli Candle with spicy patchouli, sandalwood and cedar wood.
Burn - Firewood Embers Candle
Burn does one thing and one thing only: make candles and it shows. Each candle is made individually by hand. This Firewood Embers candle adds a campy aroma to your pad with cedar and smoky mesquite wood, mingled with notes of sugar maple, golden amber and shagbark hickory wood. We suggest you don’t roast marshmallows over the flame.
Le Labo – Santal
Located on a street in Nolita, is a perfume shop, Le Labo. It is New York's premier perfumery specializing in perfecting a handful of perfumes. That philosophy has traveled to their candles. Santal 26 is a slightly masculine scent with gentle smoke and leather aroma.
Molton Brown - Intensity Candle Trinity
We predicated colored glasses would pop up this spring. They did. Now, its colored glass vessels from cool Molton Brown. The Intensity Candle set is the perfect trio of Col,orgingerlily, the spicy warmth of re-charge black pepper and the oriental tranquility of relaxing yuan zhi, all hand blended in England
Apothia – Velvet Rope
Made in LA, Apothia's scent themes for their candles are familiar and easy to understand, taking form everyday LA life scents range from Plush (in the bedroom) to Velvet Rope (club hopping). The picture of the scent they are capturing is right on the box making picking your scent ever so easy. What we pick? Velvet rope of course! Vanilla martini scent with hints of jasmine and grapefruit is prefect burning before going out.
